The Updike Distribution Logistics Human Resources team is looking to add a dynamic, fun, low-maintenance, service-oriented Sr. HR Generalist to our team. This position is based at our Phoenix corporate office located at 59th Avenue and Van Buren. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to move into management.
What will you be doing?
Aside from wearing multiple hats.....
Administers various human resources plans and procedures for all organization employees
Performs benefits administration, including claims resolution, change reporting, and communicating benefits information to employees.
Interviews, screens, and recruit’s applicants to fill entry and exempt level positions
Conducts employees exit interviews, analyzes data and makes recommendations to the management team for corrective action and continuous improvement
Responds to employee relations issues, thoroughly seeing them through from beginning to end and give objective feedback confidently to all levels
Assists the HR Director in preparing and maintaining the employee handbook and standard operating procedures for the department, revise as needed quarterly/annually
Tracks and maintain the performance evaluation process for all employees; updating management on when evaluations are coming due (quarterly, mid-year, annually) and review performance evalutions providing coaching opportunities to management
Maintains HR KPI’s such as turnover (by department, manager), time to fill, sourcing candidates
Coordinate and facilitate the entire onboarding process; conducting background checks, setting up drug screens, I-9/E-Verify process, new employee entry into the HRIS
Payroll functions such as processing ECN’s, garnishments and direct deposit in addition to assisting employees with questions pertaining to their paychecks, deductions, and hour (ideal candidate will have indepth knowledge in payroll laws and have prior payroll processing experience)
Administering the Family Medical Leave Act process from beginning to end, thorough understanding of workers compensation, ADA, HIPPA, ERISA
Ensure compliance in all regulatory logs and records (i.e. FMLA, OSHA, EEOC, EEO-1 filing)
Maintains the HR team email and responds to requests within 24 hours of receipt
Remain innovative and always seeking to remain competitive and on top of all HR trends and market standards
Must be up to date with all state employment laws and implement them throughout the organization, hold management to their respective state laws
Recruiting; including posting positions on job boards, phone screens, attending job fairs and updating the applicant tracking system. Maintain applicant tracking and prepare information required for Affirmative Action Plan (AAP) reporting
Coordinates annual open enrollment benefit meetings, prepare benefit packets and assist with the reporting and enrolling employees into the carrier systems, works closely with brokers throughout the process
Prior benefit administration is critical for this role as you will be the SME in everything benefits, working very closely with HR Director during renewals, recommending benefit programs, strategize with senior level management in creating a robust benefit package for employees
Maintains human resources information system (HRIS) records and conducts self-audit reports to help assure data integrity
Continuously evaluate existing work processes and prospective processes to ensure the most effective use of resources. Make recommendations for process improvements.
Assist with the establishment and maintenance of various employee engagement programs or related special events
Provides human resources policy guidance and interpretation to all levels
Assist with unemployment claims and responses – act as back up to Coordinator
Prepare employee verification correspondence – act as back up to Coordinator
Coordinate between departments and operating units in resolving day-to-day administrative challenges
Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of employee information
Lead company audits
Acts as secondary back-up to front desk phone coverage - act as back up to Coordinator
Perform related administrative duties as assigned, company errands, travel to different facilities ins required with this position

Education and/or Experience:
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in Human Resources (or a related field) is required
Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in a similar capacity
