Updike Distribution Logistics is looking for a talented Driver Manager whose primary responsibility is for the efficient utilization of manpower and equipment through directing and controlling the efforts of our drivers, using discretionary judgment to enforce the company policy regarding operations and complying with state and federal laws.
Our Driver Managers are the connection between our drivers and our company. We need our Driver Managers to be in-tuned with their drivers, building and maintain driver relationships, and communicate with them on a daily basis. This is a fast-paced position that requires someone to be able to make quick and effective business decisions. We need someone who is responsive to drivers, makes themselves available (even during days off), and wholeheartedly understands the importance of communication. Drivers like to feel valued and we need to do everything in our power to make them feel valued.
We need our Driver Managers to be knowledgeable with DOT regulations and to constantly keep up with the changes in the transportation world. Driver Managers need to review customer orders and determine proper routing, equipment, and manpower requirements and eventually assign loads to their drivers.
In addition, need to hold drivers accountable to their pick-up and delivery times - our customers expect efficiency from us and we need to deliver on it. Driver Managers need to help resolve transportation issues with urgency and professionalism and adopt an organized process when maintaining paperwork, data files, and reports. This is a supervisor role, so that comes with all the supervisory responsibilities such as coaching, counseling, delegating, and leading a group of drivers.
Ideally you should have prior dispatch experience within a trucking environment, however we certainly won't shy away from training the right people
Be geographically inept
Strong communication skills - be comfortable with talking to drivers
Make yourself available to your drivers, even if it requires off hours assistance to prevent failing a customer
Problem solve, care about your team of drivers and go above and beyond to help them when an issue arises
